Botswana Election Day Public Holiday Update 2

(Posted on Monday, January 26, 2009)

Source: Sunday Standard Reporter (Gaborone)

The ruling Botswana Congress Party (BCP) has asked the Government to declare Election Day a public holiday so as to give everybody a chance to go to the polls.

The majority party is thus making its own, the drive initiated 18 months ago by the BPP minority party (20-Jul-2007) and which was drafted into law last summer (22-Aug-2008 and 27-Nov-2008).

The next legislative and presidential elections are expected to occur in October 2009.
