Botswana's Minister of Presidential Affairs and Public Administration, Margaret Nasha, has announced that the upcoming election day, Friday, October 16, 2009, will be a public holiday.

This follows last week's announcement of general elections(03-Sep-2009), by Botswana's President, Ian Khama, and the repeated calls to make election day a public holiday, by both the opposition and the governing parties, as well as the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) (20-Jul-2007, 22-Aug-2008, 27-Nov-2008, 26-Jan-2009, and 14-Mar-2009).
