The Commission of Constitution and Justice and Citizenship (CCJC) of Brazil's Chamber of Deputies unanimously approved a bill that would move mid-week public holidays to the following Friday.
This bill, introduced in 2003, is the latest of a series of draft laws aimed at increasing the economy's efficiency by moving mid-week public holidays to the nearest weekend (see, for example: 11-Jul-2007, 27-Nov-2007).
The January 1, September 7 and December 25 annual public holidays would be exempted from the scope of this law.
