Chile's Senate has approved a bill which will move the date of the upcoming Presidential elections (and associated public holiday) from Friday, December 11, to Sunday December 13, 2009.
Note that the bill, in its Senatorial version, mandates that all future Presidential elections be held on a Sunday. The bill still needs to be signed by President Bachelet, but considering that she was the one that originated the bill (06-Apr-2009), it is a virtual certainty that she will sign it into law.
With one public holiday thus cancelled, it makes it more likely that the 2010, bicentennial public holidays will eventually be approved (29-May-2009).
