Dominica's Government Information Services has issued a press release announcing that Monday, January 4, 2010, had been declared a one-off, post-election, public holiday.
The date announced is the date that we had surmised would be declared a one-off public holiday (19-Dec-2009), when Dominica's Prime Minister, Roosevelt Skerrit, announced that his government would declare a public holiday in the month of January, "to celebrate and savor the achievement of our having conducted a peaceful and conclusive process of electing a new government".
A public holiday had been declared, four years ago (05-May-2005), following Prime Minister Skerrit's re-election to a second term. More generally, such post-election public holidays are common in Caribbean countries (08-Sep-2009, 13-Mar-2009, 22-Feb-2005, 21-May-2003, 21-Oct-2003, 27-Nov-2003, and 23-May-1997).
