Ghana's Minister of the Interior, Cletus Avoka, has issued a statement declaring Monday, September 21, 2009, a statutory public holiday.
In 2009, this date actually corresponds to 2 separate public holidays; the annual Muslim feast of the Eid ul-Fitr (End of Ramadan), and the newly declared Founder's Day public holiday, commemorating the birth of Ghana’s First President, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah (03-Sep-2009).
According to the communique by Ghana's Ministry of the Interior, Tuesday, September 22, 2009, will be a regular day, and thus it seems that the government of Ghana has decided not to heed the call by Sheikh Musah Abdul Kadir, the Chairman of Ghana's National Hajj Committee, who asked the government to extend the public holiday for the Eid ul-Fitr Festival from one to two days (09-Aug-2009).
