Guernsey and Alderney's Commerce and Employment Department has asked the Guernsey Government (aka. the States of Guernsey) to declare the day after Liberation Day an official public holiday, in Guernsey, in 2010.
The reason invoked by the Commerce and Employment Department is that next year's Guernsey Liberation Day public holiday falls on a Sunday (May 9).
The request also asks the States to make the 28th of December a public holiday (aka. bank holiday in the UK) if Christmas or Boxing Day falls on a Saturday.
Similarly the Commerce and Employment Department asks that the 3rd of January be a holiday when New Year's Day falls on a Saturday. This latest request, though is more a formality for the sake of being able to prepare ahead of time, as these days in lieu are systematically given (which is not the case of May 9th).
Note that Liberation Day is not a public holiday on the island of Alderney, where the corresponding Homecoming Day public holiday is celebrated annually on December 15th.
In related news, neighboring Jersey's government and public sector workers got a day in lieu public sector holiday on Monday, May 11, 2009, to compensate that this year's Liberation Day public holiday fell on a Saturday (17-Feb-2009).

Guernsey Could Add May 10 Public Holiday Next Year
