The States of Guernsey (the Guernsey Government) has agreed to declare the day after next year's Liberation Day public holiday, Monday, May 10th, 2010, an additional official public holiday, in Guernsey.
The decision follows last month's request by the Commerce and Employment Department (11-Sep-2009), which was based on the fact that next year's, May 9, Guernsey Liberation Day public holiday falls on a Sunday, and that the awarding of a bank holiday when Liberation Day falls on a weekend is not automatic.
The States of Guernsey has not, so far, announced any decision concerning last month's other requests for a day in lieu public holiday to be declared on Monday, December 28, 2009, and Monday, January 3, 2010. Coincidentally, this same week, neighboring Jersey has approved a December 28 day in lieu public holiday for this year (13-Oct-2009).
Note that Liberation Day is not a public holiday on the island of Alderney, where the corresponding Homecoming Day public holiday is celebrated annually on December 15th.
