India 2010 Public Sector Holidays Announced

(Posted on Saturday, June 13, 2009)

Source: The Times of India (New Delhi)

The Ministry of Personnel, Government of India, has announced the list of public sector holidays to be observed in Central Government Offices during the year 2010.

The published list has immediately drawn attention, as 8 of the 17 holidays declared by the government, for 2010, fall either on Saturdays or Sundays (and India does not allow for days in lieu when a public holiday falls on a weekend).

The public holidays falling on a weekend in 2010 are: Milad-un-Nabi (birthday of Prophet Mohammad), Mahavir Jayanti, Independence Day, Id-ul Fitr, Mahatama Gandhi's birthday, Dussehra, Guru Nanak's birthday, and Christmas.

From our calculations, it would appear that the date of Onam in 2010, as listed in Annexure 2, is incorrect, and should be September 20, rather than August 23, as per the published listing.
