Indonesia Announces 2010 Public Holidays

The government of Indonesia has issued a decree designating public holidays and collective leave days for 2010.

The decree, signed by the state minister for administrative reforms, the minister of religious affairs, and the minister of manpower and transmigration, and presented to the press by Taufiq Effendi, Indonesia's state minister for administrative reform, limits collective leave public holidays to three days, a continuation the the trend started last year (05-Feb-2008).

Coordinating Minister for People’s Welfare, Aburizal Bakrie, added that as all of the 13 state-approved holidays fall on weekdays in 2010, the head of any government institutions that still work a six day week can announce a Saturday bridge public holiday if a public holiday falls on the preceding Friday.

The Minister further added that there will be no additional holidays apart from the appointed national holidays and collective leave days an oblique reference to the 2 electoral public holidays declared in 2009 (03-Jul-2009 and 31-Mar-2009) and which some might expect to be repeated in some other form in 2010.
