The government of Iran has announced that, Thursday, September 17, and Saturday, September 19, the days before and after this year's Quds holiday would be additional one-off public holidays.
The al-Quds is normally not an official public holiday in Iran, but as it always occurs on the last Friday of Ramadan, and Fridays are the Iranian weekend, its date is by force always a non-working day (this is akin to the non-official status of Easter Sunday as a public holiday in most Western countries).
Note that, as the Eid e-Fitr, End of Ramadan, public holiday is scheduled for Sunday, September 20, 2009, this means that Iran will get 4 consecutive days of public holidays this year, from September 17 to September 20, inclusively.
