Liberia To Consider May Day Public Holiday

(Posted on Thursday, May 7, 2009)

The Liberia Labor Congress has petitioned the Liberian National Legislature to pass a law declaring May 1st, as a national public holiday.

A petition to that effect was recently presented by Vice President of the Liberia Labor Congress, Aletha Manning, to out-going Labor Minister, Samuel Kofi Woods, who assured workers of his support in this process. This is quasi-yearly request (02-Aug-2007).

Note that another new public holiday, October 29, is already under consideration by the Upper House of the National Legislature (08-Apr-2009).
