The Secretary-General of Malaysia's Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS), Datuk Mustafa Ali, has announced that he would meet with the electoral commission and demand that the date of the upcoming Bagan Pinang by-election be declared a one-off state public holiday.
According to Secretary-General Mustafa, the decision not to declare a public holiday, on the occasion of last month's Permatang Pasir by-election (24-Aug-2009), resulted in a low voter turnout.
Malaysia's Election Commission will meet on September 14 to decide on the date of the upcoming Bagan Pinang by-election.
