Mexico's lower house of parliament (Cámara de Diputados) has approved a bill creating a second celebration of the Revolution Day (Día de la Revolución) public holiday, on Friday, November 20, 2009, apparently in addition to the regularly scheduled public holiday on Monday, November 16, 2009.
The bill, which originated in the Comisión de Trabajo de la Cámara, was meant to observe this year's Revolution Day public holiday on its historic date of November 20, despite the fact that the date of this public holiday is now regulated by a 2006 decree modifying article 74 of Mexico's Labour Code (17-Jan-2006), and setting the third Monday of November (Monday, November 16, this year) as the date of the Revolution Day official public holiday.
In addition, it appears that a day in lieu public holiday will be given on Monday, November 22, 2010, as November 20 falls on a Saturday in 2010. What is not clear, yet, is whether the November 22, 2010, public holiday will replace the one scheduled for Monday, November 15, 2010, as was recently proposed by deputy Ricardo Sánchez Gálvez (29-Oct-2009) or whether there will, again, be 2 Revolution Day public holidays in 2010, the centenary of the revolution.
