Under pressure from the tourism industry, Namibia's Minister of Labour and Social Services (MoLSS) is to consider 6 variations to the Labour Act of 2007, which regulates the observance of public holidays in Namibia.
The main change requested is to sections 21 and 22 of the Labour Act, which prohibits all enterprises from requiring or permitting their employees to work on Sundays or Public Holidays. The proposed changes would, effectively exempt all tourism enterprises registered with the Namibia Tourism Board (NTB) as per the NTB Act of 2000, from the provisions of sections 21 and 22.
