Oman's Minister Diwan of Royal Court and Chairman of the Civil Service Council has announced that, this year, both the public and private sectors of Oman will get five days off for the upcoming Eid Al Fitr (End of Ramadan) public holidays.
Oman's Manpower Minister, Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser al Bakri, decreed public holidays for employees of the private sector, from Sunday September 20th 2009 till the end of Thursday September 24th 2009, with resumption of work on Saturday, September 26th 2009.
Separately, Oman's Minister of the Diwan of Royal Court, Sayyid Ali bin Hamoud bin Ali al Busaidi, announced public sector holidays, from Saturday September 19th 2009 till the end of Wednesday September 23rd 2009, for ministries, public authorities and other departments of the state administrative apparatus.
But, as usual (29-Sep-2008), there are numerous subtleties in the implementation details of such an announcement.
As the public sector in Oman benefits from a 2-day weekend (Thursdays and Fridays), this means that Oman's public sector Eid holidays will have lasted 9 days; from Thursday, September 17 until Friday, September 25, inclusively.
Omani banks, on the other hand, have a 2-day weekend on Fridays and Saturdays. Thus Omani banks will be on Eid holidays from Friday, September 18, to Saturday, September 26, 2009.
