Oman Extends End of Ramadan Public Holidays

(Posted on Thursday, September 17, 2009)

Oman's Minister Diwan of Royal Court and Chairman of the Civil Service Council has announced that, this year, both the public and private sectors of Oman will get five days off for the upcoming Eid Al Fitr (End of Ramadan) public holidays.

Employees of the private sector, as well as those of the ministries, public authorities and other departments of the state administrative apparatus, have thus been given Eid public holidays from Saturday, September 19, to Wednesday, September 23, 2009.

But, as usual (29-Sep-2008), there are numerous subtleties in the implementation details of such an announcement.

As the public sector in Oman benefits from a 2-day weekend (Thursdays and Fridays), this means that Oman's public sector Eid holidays will have lasted 9 days; from Thursday, September 17 until Friday, September 25, inclusively.

Omani banks, on the other hand, have a 2-day weekend on Fridays and Saturdays. Thus Omani banks will be on Eid holidays from Friday, September 18, to Saturday, September 26, 2009.
