Taiwan's Premier, Wu Den-yih, has instructed Taiwan's Ministry of the Interior (MOI) to consider setting up a Grandparents Day national holiday.
According to Executive Yuan spokesman, Su Jun-pin, during the last cabinet meeting, the Premier asked the MOI to select a non-work day for a Grandparents Day so that it will not affect production and industrial development.
This new national holiday, which would be differentiated from the existing traditional Chong Yang festival for the elderly, celebrated on the ninth day of the ninth lunar month.
Note that Taiwan has a history of proposing similar new national holidays (21-Oct-2009 and 21-Sep-2007), which in the end amount to nought.
