(Posted on Tuesday, November 10, 2009)

The President of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, has signed the "Decree On The Kurban Bayramy Celebrations" which sets the Kurban Bayramy celebrations in Turkmenistan, for the period of November 28-30, 2009, with an additional, one-off, day in lieu, public holiday on Tuesday, December 1st, 2009.

The addition of a non-working day on Tuesday, December 1st, 2009, means a 4-day period of non-working public holidays, for all sectors in Turkmenistan (as per the wording of the decree, "all businesses, institutions and organizations irrespective of their ownership are to enforce this decree").

As was the case in the past (02-Dec-2008 and 30-Sep-2008), Turkmenistan has declared its Muslim public holiday one day later than most of its neighbors.
