Zambia's Chief Government spokesperson, Lieutenant-General Ronnie Shikapwasha, has announced that Thursday, September 3, 2009, would not be a public holiday.
Lieutenant-General Shikapwasha went on to say that, on September 3rd, "Zambians should observe the day like any other working day and business should go on as usual".
Apparently last year's declaration of September 3rd as an official public holiday was a one-off affair, and this, despite the announcement that President Banda had signed a statutory instrument into law making September 3rd an annual public holiday, as a symbol of the significance of Mwanawasa's immense contributions to Zambia (26-Aug-2008).
