Argentina's Minister of Tourism, Enrique Meyer, has confirmed that the 2 days of Carnival, abolished as public holidays in 1976 by the military junta, would be restored at the national level effective this year.
In a feat of double negatives, the minister did, however, point-out that while the 2 days of Carnival would be holidays, they would not be non-working days (contar "como feriado, no como día no laborable" los lunes y martes de carnaval).
The 2 days of Carnival will next occur on Monday and Tuesday, February 15 and 16, 2010.
Over the years there have been many attempts at restoring these public holidays, and many public sector workers at the municipal and provincial levels do get the days off (11-Feb-2007).
