Argentina's federal government and the government of Argentina's Capital Territory (Buenos Aires) are in conflict over proposed plans to extend the upcoming May 25 public holiday marking Argentina's bicentennial.
As May 25 falls on a Tuesday, Argentina's President, Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, has indicated that her government plans to declare Monday, May 24 as an additional bridge public holiday.
Among other topics of discord, the mayor of Buenos Aires, Mauricio Macri, disagrees with the idea of a May 24 public holiday.
However, some legislators have also suggested declaring Friday, May 21, 2010, as an additional public holiday, meaning that the bicentennial celebrations public holidays would extend from May 21 to 25, 2010.
Note that similar additional public holidays are also under consideration (29-May-2009), in Chile, which will also celebrate its bicentennial this year.
