The mayor of Mar del Plata, has met with Argentina's Interior Minister, Florencio Randazzo, yesterday, to join his voice to the chorus of politicians asking him to enact a one-off public holiday on Monday, May 24, 2010.
A couple of months ago, as May 25, 2010, falls on a Tuesday, Argentina's President, Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, had indicated (25-Jan-2010) that her government planned to declare Monday, May 24, 2010, as an additional bridge public holiday. However, some legislators have also suggested declaring Friday, May 21, 2010, as an additional public holiday, meaning that the bicentennial celebrations public holidays would extend from May 21 to 25, 2010.
Similar additional public holidays were also under consideration (29-May-2009), in Chile, which will also celebrate its bicentennial this year. However, the recent earthquake and need for massive reconstruction may have put an end to that idea.
