The Chief Minister of the Australian Capital Territory (ACT), Jon Stanhope, has officially announced that Tuesday, April 26, 2011, would also be a public holiday in the ACT.
This announcement is due to the fact that Anzac Day falls on Easter Monday for the first time ever, and is in line with last year's CAF Agreement (15-Jan-2009), which set out to harmonize the treatment of the ANZAC Day public holiday, across all Australian states and territories, when ANZAC Day falls on a Sunday, or another public holiday.
Recently, Western Australia (01-Jul-2010) and Southern Australia (08-Jul-2010) have also declared April 26, 2011, as a public holiday. All other Australian states are expected to follow suit, even Tasmania, which did not follow the CAF guidelines in 2010 (18-Apr-2009), but which will, de facto, in 2011 as Easter Tuesday is a State public holiday in Tasmania.
In his announcement, Chief Minister Stanhope also reminded Canberra residents that the 2010 Family and Community Day public holiday, created a few years ago (30-Jul-2007), would take place on September 27 as per the recently modified method of determining the date of the Family and Community Day public holiday (16-Oct-2009).
