The Minister for Workplace Relations of Australia's State of Tasmania, David O’Byrne, has tabled a bill in Parliament that would include provision for a substitute public holiday for ANZAC Day when it falls on a Sunday or on Easter Monday.
Today's bill follows from last month's announcement by Minister O'Byrne, who had announced that the State Government was drafting an amendment to the "Statutory Holidays Amendment Act 2000" (19-Sep-2010), and the earlier communique, at the beginning of this year, by the previous Workplace Relations Minister, Lisa Singh (21-Feb-2010).
The aforementioned legislation would bring Tasmania in line with last year's CAF agreement (Council for the Australian Federation) to harmonize the treatment of the ANZAC Day public holiday, across all Australian states and territories, when ANZAC Day falls on a Sunday (15-Jan-2009).
The original legislation required for this to happen in Tasmania, the "Statutory Holidays Amendment Bill 2009" (18-Apr-2009), was initially rejected by Tasmania's Legislative Council in October of last year (18-Oct-2009).
