The Cayman Islands government has declared that Friday, April 29, 2011, the date of the upcoming UK royal wedding, would be a one-off public holiday in the Cayman Islands.

Last week (18-Dec-2010), the head of the Cayman Islands Governor's Office, Steve Moore, had announced that the Cayman Islands Cabinet had discussed the possibility of declaring an extra public holiday for the 2011 wedding of Prince William.

Cayman Islands government officials have said that the new holiday would officially become part of the schedule of 2011 public holidays when a Public Holidays Order is issued next year, in accordance with the "Public Holidays Law (2007 Revision)" (19-Jun-2007).

Currently, the UK (23-Nov-2010), Scotland (24-Nov-2010), and the Isle of Man (26-Nov-2010), have already announced that April 29, 2011, would be a one-off public holiday. In addition, Jersey (22-Nov-2010), Gibraltar (01-Dec-2010), Guernsey and Alderney (02-Dec-2010), and the Falkland Islands (04-Dec-2010), are currently considering the idea.
