Falkland Islands Declares December 29 Public Holiday

(Posted on Saturday, December 4, 2010)

At the last Falkland Islands Executive Council (Exco) meeting, the Exco advised the Acting Governor, Ric Nye, to issue a notice appointing December 29, 2010, as a public holiday.

In addition, at that same meeting, the Exco asked the Governor to declare April 29, 2011, the date of the wedding of Prince William to Kate Middleton, a one-off public holiday in the Falkland Islands.

The UK (23-Nov-2010), Scotland (24-Nov-2010), and the Isle of Man (26-Nov-2010), have already announced that April 29, 2011, would be a one-off public holiday, while Jersey (22-Nov-2010), Gibraltar (01-Dec-2010), and Guernsey and Alderney (02-Dec-2010) are currently considering the idea.
