The Gabonese Minister of Labour (Ministre du Travail, de l'Emploi et de la Prévoyance Sociale), Maxime Ngozo Issondou, has announced that Saturday, May 1st, 2010, had been declared as a paid non-working public holiday throughout Gabon (la journée du samedi 1er mai est déclarée fériée, chômée et payée sur l'étendue du territoire national).
Ever since the 2004 amendments (26-May-2004) to Gabon's public holidays legislation (the "Décret, n°000484/PR/MTE du 26 mai 2004, portant modification de l'article 2 du décret n°000727/PR/MTEFP du 2 Juin 1998"), it has often been felt necessary by the Gabonese government to re-confirm the date of fixed-date public holidays when they fall on a weekend, as is the case in 2010.
