The government of Haiti has announced that, although the Carnival celebrations had been cancelled for this year, the Mardi Gras, February 16, 2010, public holiday would remain a non-working day (jour férié chômé).
This clarification was made as there was confusion about the earlier announcement that the Carnival celebrations had been cancelled, and in the context of the Article 110 (alinéas 1et 2) du Code du Travail de la République d'Haïti.
The cancellation of the Carnival festivities was decided in the context of last month's earthquake whose 30-day mark was commemorated by a public holiday, last Friday (10-Feb-2010).
