Kuwait's head of the civil service commission, Abdulaziz Al-Zin, has announced that Sunday, July 11, 2010, had been declared an additional public holiday for all civil servants and state employees, to mark the Islamic day of Isra and Miraj.
In addition, as is often the case, the banking sector will follow the public sector and, as such, all financial institutions will be closed on Sunday, July 11, 2010.
Note that the actual Isra and Miraj public holiday falls on Friday, July 9, 2010, but this additional public sector holiday was declared because Fridays are now part of the Kuwait weekend (04-Aug-2007).
Apparently, this one-off public sector holiday will only apply to the public sector as the recently-gazetted new Labout Code only applies to annually recurring public holidays (22-Feb-2010).
