Kyrgyzstan Announces May 2010 Public Holidays

(Posted on Thursday, April 29, 2010)

The Labor Ministry of Kyrgyzstan has announced the upcoming working and non-working days in connection with the May 2010 public holidays in Kyrgyzstan.

Surprisingly, the Labor Ministry of Kyrgyzstan has declared Monday, May 3, 2010, as a one-off public holiday to compensate the fact that this year's, May 1, Labour Day public holiday, falls on a Saturday, despite the fact that, normally (16-Mar-2009), only Sunday public holidays give rise to a day in lieu public holiday.

The Kyrgyzstan Ministry of Labour also confirmed that the May 5, Constitution Day, public holiday would remain for this year (despite the Constitution of Kyrgyzstan currently being reviewed), and that no bridge public holiday would be declared, in contrast to what was sometimes done in previous years (27-Apr-2009).

Finally, the Ministry's communique confirmed that, in accordance with paragraph 2 of article 115 of the 2004 Labour Code, a day in lieu public holiday would be observed on Monday, May 10, 2010, to compensate the fast that this year's, May 9, Independence Day public holiday, falls on a Sunday.
