The President of Mexico's Senate Committee on Legislative Review, Alejandro Zapata Perogordo, has announced that he would introduce new legislation to exceptionally observe this year's Revolution Day public holiday on Monday, November 22, 2010.
As was the case in last year's last-minute attempt to pass similar legislation (12-Nov-2009, 10-Nov-2009, 08-Nov-2009, 06-Nov-2009, and 29-Oct-2009), the reason given is that following the 2006 revision to Article 74 of the Mexican Labour Code (17-Jan-2006), this year's Revolution Day public holiday, coinciding with its centennial, would be observed on Monday, November 15, while the historical date is November 20th.
It is not clear if this year's attempt will fare better than last year's. The basic arguments, pro and con, have not changed, although this year's legislation is being introduced more than 6 months before the date of the public holiday, rather than a few weeks before as was the case last year.
