Mexico's President, Felipe Calderón, has issued a decree declaring Wednesday and Friday, September 15 and 17, 2010, as one-off public holidays on the occasion of Mexico's upcoming bicentennial celebrations.
The announced public holidays, in conjunction with the annual September 16 Independence Day and the weekend of September 18-19, will lead to 5 consecutive days off, from September 15 to 19, 2010, inclusively.
The decree, published yesterday in the "Diario Oficial de la Federación" states that the 2 additional public holidays apply to all those concerned by sub-paragraph B of Article 123 of the "Constitución Politica de los Estados Unidos Mexicanos", that is to say, to all public servants and schools.
However, in a later communique, the Asociación de Bancos de México (ABM) announced that Mexican banks would also be closed to the public on all 3 aforementioned dates; Wednesday to Friday, September 15-17, 2010, and warned clients to make banking arrangements before September 15. Banks that usually open on Saturdays will be open for business on Saturday, September 18, 2010.
For its part, the Bolsa Mexicana de Valores (Mexican stock market) announced that it would only close on Thursday, September 16, 2010.
