The Government of Nepal has declared Friday, January 15, 2010, a public holiday on account of that date's expected annular partial solar eclipse.
The date is usually observed as the Maghi Parba / Maghe Sankranti regional public holiday in Western Nepal.
Last summer (21-Jul-2009), the government of Nepal, had declared a public holiday on Wednesday, July 22, 2009, the day of the longest total solar eclipse of the century.
Note that the Nepalese government has already declared Saturday, January 16, 2010, the day after the eclipse, and the first day of the Taak Lhosar (Tiger New Year 2846), as a public holiday (05-Jan-2010).
