The Ogun State Government, Southwest of Nigeria has declared Monday, June 14, 2010, a work free public holiday in commemoration of the 17th anniversary of the June 12, 1993, election.

In a separate announcement, the Lagos state government had declared Saturday, June 12, 2010, as a regional public holiday, although it had not declared a day in lieu public holiday on Monday, June 14, 2010, as had been widely rumoured.

June 12th is celebrated annually in Lagos State, and sometimes also in Ogun State (11-Jun-2009, 11-Jun-2008 and 10-Jun-2006). As per custom (15-Jun-2009), the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC), asked President Goodluck Jonathan to declare June 12 as an annual national public holiday.
