The governor of Nigeria's State of Ogun, Gbenga Daniel, has announced that the Ogun State government had declared Wednesday, July 7, 2010, a non-working public holiday to commemorate the death of Moshood Abiola, 12 years ago.

In his statement, the state governor pointed-out that the aforementioned public holiday declaration was in line with the July 7 Declaration as Moshood Abiola Memorial Day law, signed on December 15, 2004, which states in section 3 that MKO Day shall be observed as a work-free day in Ogun State.

Mr Abiola, the winner of the June 12, 1993, presidential elections, died in detention, and Ogun state is already observing that date as a public holiday (11-Jun-2010).
