Oman's Minister of the Diwan of Royal Court and Chairman of the Civil Service Council, Sayyid Ali bin Hamoud al Busaidi, has announced that it was decided that Saturday, July 24, 2010 (Shaban 12th, 1431 AH) would be an official non-working public holiday for employees at ministries, public authorities and other departments of the state's administrative apparatus.
The aforementioned public holiday is due to the fact that this year's, July 23rd, Blessed Renaissance Day public holiday falls on a Friday; a weekend day in Oman, while Saturdays are still working days, despite some attempts in past years to move to a Friday-Saturday weekend (22-May-2007).
In a manner similar to what happened earlier this month (05-Jul-2010) for the Al Isra'a Wal Miraj public holiday, Oman's Manpower Minister, Sheikh Abdullah bin Nassir al Bakri, also announced that Saturday, July 24, 2010 (Shaban 12th, 1431 AH) would be an official non-working public holiday for employees at the private sector's establishments.
