Portugal's parliament is set to reject, in its third reading, a draft bill that would have removed some public holidays while moving the date of some other public holidays to adjoin the nearest weekend.
The rejection is a virtual certainty as the Socialists's support for the bill is evaporating, while the Left Bloc and the PCP, whose votes were needed by the PS, were always against the project.
The aforementioned bill was introduced last spring (23-May-2010) by socialist deputies, Teresa Sales and Maria do Rosário Carneiro.
It would have canceled 2 religious annual public holidays (Corpus Christi and All Saints Day) and 2 annual civil public holidays (October 5 and December 1st), while creating a new annual public holidays on December 26 (to be named Dia da Família).
