The Russian government has announced that it was planning to declare the anniversary of the Christianization of Russia, July 28, as an official non-working public holiday, starting next year.
As we recently commented when reporting on a bill to make February 15 a new annual public holiday in Russia (15-Feb-2010), every year there are a number of bills purporting to change public holidays legislation, most of it coming to nought (25-Dec-2009, 22-Apr-2009, and 16-Nov-2008, ).
In fact, a similar declaration was made 2 years ago in the Ukraine (25-Jul-2008) but it was never followed by the official declaration of July 28 as a non-working public holiday in the Ukraine.
