Solomon Islands Declares August 4 Public Holiday

The Solomon Islands Ministry of Home Affairs, the ministry responsible for declaring national public holidays, has announced that the upcoming National Election day, Wednesday, August 4, 2010, would be declared a national public holiday.

The aforementioned announcement came by way of Solomon Islands' Chief Electoral Officer, Polycarp Haununu, who was quoted as saying that "We have been advised that the legal instrument to declare election day a public holiday has been signed, as recommended by the Electoral Commission".
