South African President, Jacob Zuma, has announced that, February 11, 2010, the date of his upcoming State of the Nation address would not be a public holiday, as had been widely rumoured.
Election day, in South Africa, has regularly been declared a one-off public holiday (19-Mar-2009, 24-Feb-2004, and 28-Apr-1999), but, recently (18-Apr-2009), South Africa's government moved the date of the presidential inauguration to May 9th, 2009, for the first time ever on a Saturday, to get around the requirement by law that the date should be a public holiday, due to the preceding backlash from the South African business community (19-Mar-2009).
