The government of Sri Lanka has declared a one-off public sector holiday in Colombo on Friday, November 19, 2010, the day of the upcoming inauguration of re-elected President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
According to the government announcement, all public offices in Colombo Fort, Slave Island, Kollupitiya, and Bambalapitiya areas will be closed on November 19, and the Sri Lankan Ministry of Labor Relation and Productivity has issued a statement urging the private sector to also declare a fully paid holiday in these same areas.
Over the years, the government of Sri Lanka has often declared one-off public holidays in conjunction with elections or inaugurations (06-Apr-2010 and 25-Jan-2010).
