The Vice President of Suriname, Robert Ameeral, has announced another new religious public holiday in Suriname, on Tuesday, November 16, 2010, for the upcoming Id-ul-Adha (Feast of Sacrifice).
Recall that, at the end of last month (30-Oct-2010), after 15 years of demands from the Indian community, Suriname's President, Desi Bouterse, had finally announced that the upcoming Diwali, on Friday, November 5, 2010, would be an official public holiday.
We expect these 2 new public holidays to remain in the coming years as has been the case for the, August 9, International Day of Indigenous People, declared as a national public holiday in the summer of 2007 (08-Aug-2007).
No mention was made, however, of the recent promise of a new annual public holiday for Maroons Day (11-Oct-2010).
