Taiwan's Executive Yuan has approved a draft bill which would replace the current declaration of public holidays, and compensatory working Saturdays, executive orders by the Cabinet, by permanent legislation.
The aforementioned bill, would keep the current list of public holidays (17-Aug-2009), including the recently restored, April 4, Children's Day public holiday (25-Mar-2010), and would limit all public holidays to one day, with the exception of Lunar New Year.
The bill would also automatically stipulate the declaration of bridge public holidays, whenever a public holiday falls on a Tuesday or a Thursday, to be compensated on a working Saturday.
If it passes through the legislative process, the new legislation would take effect on January 1st, 2011.
