The spokesperson for the Centre for Resolution of Emergency Situation (CRES), Colonel Sansern Kaewkamnerd, has announced that the government of Thailand had authorised the declaration of Monday, May 17, and Tuesday, May 18, 2010, as official non-working public holidays in Bangkok.
Note that the city of Bangkok extends beyond the borders of Bangkok province, and therefore the public holidays announcement will also affect the provinces of Nonthaburi, Samut Prakan, Pathum Thani, Nakhon Pathom and Samut Sakhon.
Recall that last Friday was also declared a one-off public holiday (13-May-2010), "to facilitate the government's attempt to deal with the current situation".
In two separate later announcements, the president of Thailand's Stock Exchange, Patareeya Benjapolchai, announced that the bourse would be open on Monday, May 17, but that it would close at 15:30, one hour earlier than usual, while the Thai Bankers' Association, which often does not follow government declared one-off public holidays (14-Apr-2009), said that Central banks and commercial banks would be operating as normal on May 17 and 18, 2010.
