Turkmenistan Declares December 13 Public Holiday

(Posted on Friday, December 10, 2010)

Turkmenistan's President, Gurbanguly Berdimuhammadov, has signed a decree declaring Monday, December 13, 2010, as an additional non-working public holidays in connection with the upcoming celebration of the Neutrality Day public holiday.

Normally, in Turkmenistan, public holidays that fall on a Sunday are not compensated by declaring a public holiday on the next working day.

However, paragraph 3 of article 81 of the Labour Code of Turkmenistan does give the President the discretionary powers to do so on a case-by-case basis, something that President Berdimuhammadov has done on occasion in the past, particularly in the case of multi-day public holidays (see, for example: 19-Mar-2010 and 10-Nov-2009).
