The UAE's Minister of Education and Chairman of Board of Directors of the Federal Authority for Human Resources, Humaid Mohamed Al Qattami, has announced that Mawlid, the public holiday for the birthday celebration of Prophet Mohammad, will be observed on Friday, February 26, 2010.
The communique goes on to state that, despite the announced date falling on one of the UAE's weekly days of rest (31-May-2006), as per the "Cabinet Resolution No. (17) of 2009 regarding the Public Holidays at the Federal Government" (26-Apr-2009), public holidays that fall on a Dubai weekend day are no longer compensated.
