The UAE's Minister of Education and Chairman of the Federal Human Resources Authority, Humaid Obeid Al Qatami, has issued a circular announcing that the upcoming Eid Al Fitr public holidays for federal ministries and departments would run from the 29th of Ramadan until the 3rd of Shawwal, 1431AH, inclusively.
The dates mentioned in the aforementioned announcement correspond to Wednesday, September 8, until Sunday, September 12, 2010. The 29th day of the month of Ramadan was made an annual official public holiday in 2002 (12-Feb-2002).
Later, the UAE's Labour Minister, Saqr Ghubash, announced that the Eid Al Fitr public holidays for the UAE private sector would be on first and second day of the month of Shawwal (most likely to be Friday and Saturday, September 10 and 11, 2010. Some private companies have decided to extend the Eid holiday by one day to compensate for the official holiday falling over the two weekend days.
Finally, a spokesman for the UAE Securities and Commodities Authority, the domestic bourse regulator, announced that stock markets in the United Arab Emirates (the Dubai Financial Market, DFMGI, and the Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange, ADI) would be closed starting on Wednesday, September 8, until Sunday, September 12 or on Monday, September 13, depending on when Eid finishes.
