Scotland Will Declare Royal Wedding Public Holiday

(Posted on Wednesday, November 24, 2010)

A spokesman for Scotland's First Minister, Alex Salmond, has announced that the Cabinet had agreed that Friday, April 29, 2011, would also be a public holiday in Scotland.

The announcement follows yesterday's announcement (23-Nov-2010) by UK Prime Minister, David Cameron, that the UK Cabinet had agreed to declare Friday, April 29, 2011, as a one-off public holiday on account of the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton.

However, technically, the UK Cabinet decision did not apply to Scotland, which has control over its bank holidays and public holidays. However, as we had expected, the adoption of an April 29, 2011, public holiday in Scotland proved to be a mere formality.
