The government of the Indian State of Maharashtra has declared a special public holiday for Mumbai city on Saturday, April 2, 2011, on the date of the CWC final game between India and Sri Lanka.
The aforementioned public holiday, declared under the Negotiable Instruments Act, had been widely expected since last weekend (27-Mar-2011), when the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Prithviraj Chavan, announced that the state government was considering declaring Saturday, April 2, 2011, as a special one-off state public holiday, "to allow the people of Mumbai the opportunity to watch the upcoming finals of the Cricket World Cup" (CWC).
In related Indian news, a gazetted home department notification from the Lt Governor of the Indian State of Puducherry has declared Wednesday, April 13, 2011, as a public holiday for all government offices, institutions, local bodies and other commercial institutions to enable employees and others on the occasion of the upcoming assembly polls.
