The public sector's human resources department of the government of Puerto Rico (ORHELA) has released the "Memorando Especial Núm. 17-2011", which lists the public sector holidays for the calendar year 2012.
The document, signed by ORHELA's Director, Samuel G. Dávila Cid, seems to indicate that the draft bill "Proyecto de la Cámara 1387", introduced 3 years ago (06-Apr-2009), will never come to pass. This draft bill, would reduce the number of public sector holidays from 19 to 15, and had been approved by Puerto Rico's Chamber of Representatives (23-Jun-2009). However, since then it seems stuck in the Senate.
Speaking of Puerto Rico's Senate, the aformentioned announcement of the Puerto Rican list of public sector holidays for the calendar year 2012 also excludes any reference to the proposed new March 30 public holiday to commemorate veterans of the Vietnam war, which was passed by the Senate unanimously last month (07-Jun-2011).
Note that, as always (05-Apr-2010), the private sector benefits from far fewer public holidays than the public sector. Banks usually follow the public sector holidays, except in cases when these fall on a Sunday.
